Roanoke Valley CROP Hunger Walk

About Roanoke Valley CROP Hunger Walk

No one in this world should be hungry. That's why the Roanoke Valley CROP Hunger Walk is more than just a gathering of people in a place. We're part of a movement, taking steps and raising funds together to provide meals for those in our own community who need them - and supporting programs that create greater food security in communities all around the world.

Please join in us in the fight against hunger. The steps we take and funds we raise will make a difference in the lives of others.

This year, we are again partnering with Feeding Southwest Virginia (FSWVA), and in particular, the Community Solutions Center (CSC). CSC, part of FSWVA, is our local organization who will receive 25% of funds raised. You can learn more about the good work of the CSC by volunteering with them. We have set aside three dates for CROP Walk supporters to volunteer and get hands-on experience about this agency.

Tuesday, July 16, 9:30-12:30 at Community Solutions Center Food Pantry, 2328 Melrose Ave. NW, Roanoke. Volunteer duties may include welcoming clients, guiding clients through the pantry and helping them select their groceries, bagging clients’ grocery bags, restocking items on shelves and in refrigerators, and helping clients load their grocery bags into their cars. (4-5 volunteers needed)

Wednesday, July 24, 10:00-12:00 at Community Solutions Center Kitchen, 2328 Melrose Ave. NW, Roanoke. Volunteers are asked to help prepare healthy meals for local children. (4-5 volunteers needed)

Wednesday, July 31, 2:45-4:15 Kids' Farmers Market at Gainsboro Library, 15 Patton Avenue, NW Roanoke, VA 24016. The market is set up like a real farmers’ market and children are given ‘food bank bucks’ to spend while making their own choices of fresh fruits and vegetables. Volunteers are asked to escort children through the "market" after setting up the marketplace. (4-5 volunteers needed)

Here is a link that will take you to FSWVA’s online registration calendar. Click on the event you would like to volunteer for, and then click on ‘sign up’. If you have volunteered with FSWVA before you will be prompted to sign in. If you are a new volunteer, you will be prompted to set up an online user account and then will be added to the event.

Thursday, August 29, 5:30 CROP Walk Rally at South Roanoke United Methodist Church, 2330 Jefferson St SE, Roanoke, VA 24014. You will receive information about CROP and CSC, hear about the Roanoke CROP Walk (we have changed the date to October 20 as well as the meeting spot and the route), learn how to recruit a team, meet other team leaders, pick up materials, receive promotional fliers, and get to ask questions.
