Many thanks to those who helped our team over the past several years.
Why support the Crop Walk? Because you want to help families locally and abroad who are struggling with hunger.
Because according to the United Nations around 309 million people in 71 countries are facing acute hunger in 2023. High inflation, ongoing conflicts, displacements of people, and extreme climate change are all creating havoc with people’s access to adequate food. This is intolerable.
Because according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) , 28.9% of the global population, or 2.33 billion people, were moderately or severely food insecure in 2023. Moderate food insecurity is defined as people have uncertainty about their ability to get food and have reduced the quality or quantity of food they eat. With severe food insecurity people have run out of food, experienced hunger, or gone without food for a day or more.
Because while the walks support global and local hunger fighting efforts, a portion of the funds raised this fall will also be designated to long-term disaster recovery from Hurricane Helene.
- Because a quarter of the money raised is returned to Madison County’s local food cupboards and the Friendship Inn. Suzanne Collins of the Hamilton Food Cupboard notes that there has been a definite increase in the number of local people who are food insecure. Between January and August of 2024 they helped 1,964 households or 302 more households than the previous year.
Church World Service’s goal is “building a world where there is enough for all”. They provide expert guidance, supplies and funding to help struggling communities overcome their most pressing challenges whether it is clean water, sanitation, child nutrition, or farming sustainably in a world of climate change. They provide assistance to the refugees, immigrants, victims of natural disasters and struggling farmers.
Thanks for helping us out this year. The steps we take - and the funds we raise - will provide meals in our community and long-lasting solutions to hunger and poverty around the world.
